Brigid Corcoran

For Brigid Corcoran, founder of Buninyong's Saltbush Kitchen, the beautiful landscape of Wadawurrung Country in Victoria's Goldfield's region is an inspirational force for the artwork she creates and the stories she tells through food and art.

Returning to her childhood home of Buninyong, near Ballarat, she has found a thriving, supportive community. Saltbush Kitchen is an 'evolving story' that reflects her love for Australia. 'Our store ignites all your senses and transports you to a magical little Australian wonderland.'

She pours her creativity into designing a fun and immersive experience for her customers, with products that highlight Australian flavours and design.

Brigid takes us on a tour of her favourite spots around Buninyong.

1. Mount Buninyong

Brigid loves to drive or walk up to Mount Buninyong to 'recalibrate'. She finds plenty of inspiration in the sounds, vistas and bushland aromas. 'It is a rewarding sensory experience and the perfect place to switch off,' she says.

2. Lal Lal Falls

A 15-minute drive from Buninyong, Lal Lal Falls are a place of significance to the Indigenous people of the area, and it's an ideal spot to take in a bit of history. Brigid recommends packing a picnic to enjoy by the falls, and then heading off for a walk to experience the landscape.

3. Sweet Fern Fragrance Boutique

A sweet-smelling perfumery in Ballarat, Sweet Fern Fragrance Boutique delivers exactly the kind of sensory experience that Brigid loves. As she puts it, 'You can get lost in a world of new and exotic aromas and you leave smelling divine!'

4. Pancho

Fill up on a delicious South American dinner at bar-restaurant Pancho in Ballarat. Brigid describes owner Jose as 'a cool dude who knows how to deliver a tasty experience'. Her tip? Go for the 'feed me' menu option, add on some cocktails, and make a night of it.

5. Campana's

Brigid recommends a visit to family-run Campana's deli and wine store for a top fix of cheese and wine. Why not follow her advice and pick up some of the amazing dairy and a bottle of wine for a Mount Buninyong picnic.
